Ages are a rough guide: children the same age can be 15 cm apart. A quick measure against the doorframe is worth it.

Will the dress cover the knee?
Most listings give the dress length (shoulder to hem) for each size. Pop it in and we'll estimate where it lands on your child.

Measure from the top of the shoulder, by the neck, down to the middle of the knee.
Add the dress length to see where it lands.

Five tips from Lilvelle
- Height beats age. Always pick by height. Ages on listings are a guess.
- Between two sizes? Go up. They grow, and pieces from Asian makers often come up a touch small.
- Read the listing's own chart. Chest and length matter more than the number, especially for dresses and coats.
- Photo reviews are gold. Look for mums who post their child's height and the size they chose.
- Coats and Shabbos robes: size up one for layers and a second winter.
